About me
I use Carl Roger’s platform of “meeting the client where they are, accepting what they have experienced as their reality and start helping from that space. Behaviors are a result of what the client is coping with, they can be an immediate focus if these behaviors are harmful. The move then it for the client to practice self soothing techniques to reduce the intensity of panic attacks or other responses. When the client feels safe the therapist and client explore how the problems were developed.
Becoming a mental health therapist is a calling to help others in my retirement years. I bring my own childhood abuse experiences and then a successful career in costumes, props and special effects that has been quite useful in helping others.
My experience has varied from children, adolescents, young adults, adults and older adults living on the streets, in “safe houses”, prisons, regular housing, and nursing homes. All clients have had a common thread of having or being linked closely to someone that is living with Complex/developmental Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). My dissertation research is on how mothers with CPTSD are affected by the disorder when they become pregnant through birth until the child is seven years old.
I am in private practice and take insurances (see Headway.com) and provide a sliding fee scale for those without insurance. My office has a talk room with a fireplace and a play/craft room all designed to help the client relax.
