About me
I am an independent psychotherapist who is passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ adults on whatever is bringing them to therapy. I have significant experience assisting with anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, and attachment trauma.
In facing life’s challenges, I believe in the importance of asking ourselves, “What’s right with me?” and identifying and building on our strengths. I enjoy accompanying people in exploring themselves with non-judgmental curiosity as they develop greater awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and ways of dealing with whatever life has in store. How have these been influenced by personal experiences growing up and by broader social factors? Gaining this insight allows us to discover what changes might be right for us or to come to accept ourselves just as we are.
I have experience working with adults of all ages dealing with a wide variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, familial estrangement, managing difficult emotions, self-harm, psychosis, and complex PTSD. My primary approach is person-centered, strengths-focused, psychodynamic counseling. I also draw from cognitive behavioral therapy to assist clients in defining and making progress toward their goals. Having received training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and co-facilitated a DBT Skills group, I can provide DBT-informed individual therapy as well. This approach can be especially useful for those seeking ways to cope with overwhelming emotions or to improve their ability to engage effectively in their relationships with others.
Promoting social justice and combating stigma are fundamental to my practice. I’m particularly committed to creating a comfortable space for LGBTQIA+ people to receive support and work on whatever has prompted them to seek counseling. To this end, I have completed extensive training in providing affirming care to transgender and gender-expansive individuals. I also provide kink-aware and polyamorous/consensually non-monogamous-affirming therapy.
