About me
Laurel’s philosophy of counseling is relational and strengths-based. It includes a combination of techniques to support individualized, client-centered care through collaborative and research-informed treatment methods.
Laurel is originally from the Puget Sound region of Washington State. Following a decade-plus of living and exploring various regions of the country, she landed in Santa Fe to earn her Masters degree from Southwestern College. Her professional counseling career began at a non-profit in Albuquerque, which offered Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy as a primary form of mental healthcare. She has familiarity working in both outdoor and office-based mental health settings and has since relocated to Flagstaff where she is currently in practice as a Licensed Associate Counselor at Beyond the Pines.
She has training in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Parts Work, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy modalities. Additionally, she has an interest in supporting the connection between physical and mental health and has recently completed training in Pain Reprocessing Therapy — an evidence-based system of psychological techniques to support clients with neuroplastic (non-structural) chronic pain symptoms move out of the “pain-fear cycle” through the use of psychoeducation, somatic tracking, and a compassionate therapeutic alliance.
She works with clients of all ages and welcomes humans of all identities, recognizing each for their unique histories and intersectionality. She supports clients experiencing depression, anxiety, life transitions, identity exploration, and moving through grief, loss and trauma. She believes connection, reflection and experience are the catalysts for change, growth, and healing.
Outside of work, she enjoys connecting with others and the landscape through biking, skiing, running and the visual arts.
