About me
I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker focused on helping survivors of domestic and sexual violence, those who struggle with relational trauma and unhealthy attachments as well as those who are at a crossroad in their lives.
As a trauma-focused therapist I hold a safe space for you to access your strengths and create an extraordinary future for yourself. I will help you figure out the “what” as well as the “why” behind your relationship, attachment, trauma or transition concerns.
I am later in life career changer. After working with large corporations as a senior level manager, I decided to pursue an earlier dream of becoming a social worker. I bring both "lived experience" as well as a strong academic and clinical perspective to my practice.
My clinical work has included community mental health counseling, parent-infant attachment and trauma therapy, and in-home counseling for youths with behavioral challenges. I also have experience working with women in recovery from opioid addiction and complex trauma.
Most recently, I was an adult and youth counselor at a domestic and sexual violence agency where I worked with survivors from all walks of life. I have deep knowledge and understanding about the dynamics of coercive control that can show up in how an individual physically, verbally, emotionally, psychologically, sexually, and financially harms another person. When others don't believe you, or say "it's not that bad", I will be here for you to process your emotions and help you decide what are the best choices for you.
I will ask you tough questions, challenge your thoughts, and encourage you to look at your core beliefs. I will share observations, help increase your knowledge and awareness of issues close to you, offer possible solutions, and assist you with “trying on” new behaviors. But I will not force or require you to do anything you don’t want to do. That is not my role. You are the expert in your own life. I am here to help you find what works for you. My hope is that you will leave each therapy session feeling, emboldened, empowered and ready to face your fears head-on. To create a life you love.
I understand that creating a trusting, collaborative relationship takes time and would welcome the opportunity to build that alliance with you. I vary my style and approach based on what you need. It can be a more directive and interactive approach or more supportive listening. The sessions focus on your agenda and what is important to you. At the same time, through goal setting, I will help you look at the "big picture" and employ tools and skills to assist you in getting over the bumps in your life.
