About me
I have been a social woker for over 22 years and have worked in a variety of different capacities over the years that have given me a very diverse skill set. Before I was a social worker I was an early childhood teacher. I spent several years teaching kindergarten and preschool. That is why my first years as a social worker were spent in the schools. During those years I became a strong advocate for students who struggled with issues such as ADHD, Autism, anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, and giftedness, just to name a few. Making sure that these students had access to the resources that they needed became my mission. I am able to attend IEP and 504 meetings if requested and provide regular communication with teachers and school social workers to insure that strategies practiced during sessions are monitored. I also believe in working together as a team with other professionals and will communicate regularly with pediatricians and psychiatrists.
Playful Pathway LLC Therapy is where walking the path to mental wellness is the best part of the journey. Each step you take will be purposeful and rooted in sound theory and careful observations. As you move forward on your journey you will feel supported in every facet of your care. As needs change, so does my role. I can move from therapist to advocate in the blink of an eye. Each role having a place in a child's journy. Wherever you and your child are at on your journey is where we will meet. We can work to get through even the most difficult of challenges that come our way. I believe that thereis no problem that can;t be solved by working together as a team and keeping an open mind. Being positive and solution centered keeps the focus where it needs to be, which is on the child so goals can be created, planned for, and accomplished, which is the ultimate goal of why we come to therapy in the first place. Most of my clients meet with me virtually so if you choose to do this as well, look for a virtual therapy start up package that will be sent to your home with all of the essentials needed to get started with virtual sessions. If you do have any questions about how virtual therapy works or are a little hesitant please reach out and I will do my best to put your mind at ease. Most of my client's love their virtual sessions. They can be just as fun and engaging as being in person. Many people ask what are my areas of expertise. I love working with all different ages and stages of children and the beauty of what I do is that it is never boring because each child and family is unique. I do, however, really enjoy working with young 4-7 year olds that struggle with emotion regulation and with children that are gifted. Children that are gifted face so many struggles and are often pushed aside because those around them feel that because they are smart they should be able to figure things out for themselves. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The statistics resulting in poor outcomes for those gifted children that do not get support are staggering. They have a much higher chance of dropping out of school and even attempting self harm. Providing them with support so that they know they are not alone and that they don't have to have all of the answers gives them the strength that the need to build their self confidence and face challenges. Although many schools would disagree, gifted kids need accommodations too. Making sure those needs are met are also very important and are definately part of my wheelhouse. There are many other areas in which I am passionate about. Feel free to reach out and I would love to share more.
