About me
I am a compassionate Licensed Clinical Social Worker dedicated to helping adults and teens navigate anxiety, depression, mood disorders, substance use, and life stressors with support, insight, and practical coping strategies.
Hi, I’m Kim, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience helping adolescents and adults navigate anxiety, depression, mood disorders, substance use concerns, stress, family conflict, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. I understand that life can become overwhelming, especially when emotions begin to feel difficult to manage or when the coping strategies that once worked no longer seem effective. My goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable being themselves while working toward meaningful and lasting change.
I became a therapist because I have always been passionate about helping people feel heard, supported, and understood during difficult periods in their lives. I believe many people carry emotional burdens silently for years while trying to appear “fine” on the outside. Therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, explore what is happening beneath the surface, and begin healing in a safe and collaborative environment. I view therapy as a partnership where we work together to better understand patterns, identify obstacles, and build healthier ways of coping and responding to life’s challenges.
My approach to therapy is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. I understand that beginning therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you are used to handling things on your own or have struggled to feel understood by others in the past. I strive to create an environment where clients can openly discuss difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of judgment or criticism. I believe healing happens when people feel emotionally safe enough to be honest about what they are going through.
I work with clients experiencing a variety of emotional and behavioral concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress management difficulties, mood instability, self-esteem challenges, emotional overwhelm, relationship issues, unresolved trauma, grief, family conflict, and substance use concerns. I also support individuals who feel emotionally stuck, disconnected from themselves, or uncertain about how to move forward in life. Some clients come to therapy after reaching a breaking point, while others simply want additional support, insight, or healthier coping tools. Regardless of where you are in your journey, therapy can provide a space for growth, reflection, and emotional healing.
When working with anxiety, I help clients better understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, physical symptoms, and behaviors. Anxiety can show up in many ways, including racing thoughts, overthinking, panic, irritability, difficulty sleeping, muscle tension, avoidance behaviors, perfectionism, and feeling emotionally exhausted. Together, we work to identify triggers, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, build grounding skills, and develop healthier coping strategies to improve emotional regulation and daily functioning. I often incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to help clients recognize patterns that contribute to anxiety while developing practical tools to reduce emotional distress.
I also work with clients experiencing depression, sadness, emotional numbness, low motivation, hopelessness, isolation, and difficulties finding enjoyment in daily life. Depression can affect energy levels, self-worth, relationships, sleep, concentration, and overall quality of life. Many people struggling with depression become disconnected from themselves and others over time. In therapy, we focus on increasing self-awareness, improving emotional expression, rebuilding routines, strengthening coping skills, and identifying realistic steps toward emotional wellness. I work to help clients challenge negative self-beliefs while developing healthier ways of viewing themselves and their experiences.
In addition to anxiety and depression, I have extensive experience supporting individuals struggling with substance use and unhealthy coping behaviors. Substance use often develops as a way to manage emotional pain, stress, trauma, or feelings of disconnection. I approach these concerns with compassion rather than judgment. My goal is to help clients better understand the underlying emotional experiences contributing to substance use while supporting healthier coping strategies, emotional regulation, accountability, and long-term wellness. I understand recovery looks different for everyone, and I work collaboratively with clients to identify goals that align with their needs and values.
I frequently work with clients who struggle with boundaries, people-pleasing, self-worth, and relationship difficulties. Many individuals find themselves feeling emotionally drained from constantly prioritizing others while neglecting their own needs. Others may struggle with trust, communication, vulnerability, or fear of rejection due to past experiences. In therapy, we explore relationship dynamics, attachment patterns, communication styles, and emotional triggers while working toward healthier boundaries and improved self-esteem. I believe learning how to value yourself and communicate your needs effectively can significantly improve emotional well-being and relationships.
My therapeutic style is supportive while also encouraging accountability and growth. I believe therapy should provide both emotional support and practical tools that clients can apply outside of sessions. I often incorporate coping skills, mindfulness techniques, grounding exercises, emotional regulation strategies, journaling prompts, psychoeducation, and problem-solving interventions into the therapeutic process. I work to help clients better understand themselves while also developing actionable strategies for managing life’s stressors more effectively.
I utilize evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, solution-focused therapy, strengths-based approaches, and client-centered therapy. I tailor treatment to each individual’s unique needs, goals, and personal experiences rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. I recognize that every client’s story is different, and I value creating treatment plans that feel realistic, collaborative, and supportive of each person’s individual growth process.
Clients often describe me as approachable, calm, supportive, and easy to talk to. I understand that vulnerability can be difficult, especially for individuals who have spent years suppressing emotions or trying to handle everything independently. I work hard to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel emotionally safe enough to openly discuss difficult experiences, fears, insecurities, and goals without feeling rushed or judged.
I believe therapy is not about being “perfect” or having all the answers. It is about increasing self-awareness, building healthier coping strategies, improving emotional resilience, and creating meaningful change over time. Healing is often a gradual process, and I encourage clients to give themselves patience and compassion as they work through challenges and personal growth.
Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, relationship stress, substance use concerns, family conflict, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck, therapy can help provide support, clarity, and direction. Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness—it is often the first step toward healing and creating a healthier relationship with yourself and others.
I know starting therapy can feel uncomfortable, especially if this is your first experience with counseling. My goal is to help make the process feel approachable, supportive, and collaborative from the very beginning. Together, we can work toward helping you better understand yourself, strengthen your coping skills, improve emotional wellness, and move toward the life you want to build.
