About me
I'm a Clinical Social Worker dedicated to supporting folx 11+ process through traumatic or stressful life events while improving the ability to manage depression, anxiety, grief, and relationship conflicts. I also provide couples therapy to help partners build a stronger bond, work through communication difficulties, and increase intimacy.
Are you or your child struggling with that constant, hopeless battle against an inner monster or the dark shadows of the past? It’s so hard to get out of bed each morning because it seems like nothing will ever get better. Those overwhelming, and sometimes scary, thoughts or memories that run through your head leave you feeling sad, worried, or lost. Sometimes these things come up and you find tears in your eyes, your heart starts to pound, or your body begins to shake. This is all so confusing because you don’t understand what’s happening, why it's happening, and it just makes it worse...
My clients are often individuals and couples seeking support processing through stressful or traumatic events that happened in their lives. These experiences lead them to feeling like outcasts who don’t fit in, because their stories seem so different from those around them.
They feel they would be most comfortable on the Isle of Misfit Toys. They’re often swamped with thoughts that they will never be good enough. They search tirelessly for ways to make sense of their experiences. Some blend into the background, trying not to be seen. Others work super hard and become perfectionists, people pleasers, or overachievers.
They hide parts of themselves from friends, family members, and colleagues out of fear that they’ll be judged, shamed, or ejected. As a result, they hold back the best parts of themselves. They find they don’t know what to trust and end up messing up relationships or missing out on opportunities.
This is the impact stress and trauma has on our lives. It may feel impossible right now, but you can slay those monsters and shine light into the shadows. Healing from the past can be done with a companion that listens, supports, challenges, introduces coping skills, and holds up that safety net when you’re ready to dive into the heavy stuff.
I operate from a Humanistic and attachment approach, which means I view you as the expert of your life and recognize the importance of relationships to assist in recovery. We are all strong and have found ways to cope through this rollercoaster of life. That doesn’t mean we don’t need a little help sometimes! As a female of color with a disability, I’ve personally felt the crippling anxiety that parts of myself will be seen as weak or inadequate to others. I’ve cried myself to sleep at night because I felt a soul-deep despair and loneliness that I never thought I’d overcome. While I recognize that we will all feel some of this at times, I also know that it doesn’t have to define or control us. This is what attracted me to this work. There’s a path forward. You can live the life you want. I admire the courage it takes to reach out for help. I hold this at the forefront of my work and view our time together as a partnership to promote healing, growth, and self-exploration.
