About me
Hi there! I have been a clinical social worker for 26 years. My practice focuses on helping people build coping skills for daily life and recover from psychological trauma.
A lot of times, when people consider coming to therapy, there is a struggle within themselves about whether to start or not. Sometimes, there are thoughts like "Life is so hard, and I can't cope," or "It's hopeless." Sometimes, there is this fear or concern about having something wrong with yourself and how others might see you. This is perfectly valid. Yes, life can indeed be tough, and sometimes we struggle. Yet, that does not mean we can't move forward. There are ways to get through this. Therapy can help with this. Just because you are considering therapy does not mean there is something wrong with you. You have enough guts to admit to yourself that something isn't right. A lot of people can't do this and live in denial. You made it this far. Good for you! How about we look at the next step? Me, working with you.
I attended Columbia University School of Social Work and have been a social worker for over 24 years. My focus is clinical practice, and I use a variety of clinical approaches to work with the challenges associated with the above and other emotional distress experienced by my clients. My modality focus tends to be a combination of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. My specialty areas are EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and IFS (Internal Family Systems).
Now, how does this apply to you? Well, I can tell you that it shows incredible strength to want to show up and engage in treatment. We will start with a basic assessment so that I can get to know you better, and then we will develop treatment goals of your choosing so that we have a focus. We will then work on various clinical interventions that apply to your situation. Even though the above is structured, the above will be ongoing when we move along in therapy. Therapy takes time, and changes won't happen overnight. It's a series of steps. I always like to say to my clients, "Keep going. We will get through this together." Moving ahead shows tremendous courage and strength. Yet, it is different for everyone. So, the number of sessions varies for each person, depending on the circumstances. I have had clients as short as eight sessions and some for several years. Though treatment does not guarantee success, I have had many successful outcomes with clients like you.
If what I say interests you and you would like to pursue treatment further with me, please don't hesitate to reach out. I look forward to hearing from and working with you. Let's get started!
