About me

I am an experienced clinical social worker who is dedicated to working with people of all ages with neurodivergences and disabilities. I am dedicated to empower neurodivergent individuals to challenge ableism and live a life they want to live. I also am an experienced clinical social worker whose goal is to
help children and their families cope with anxiety, depression and behavioral challenges.

Hello! I’m Katherine “Katie” Johnson, an LMSW-C providing telehealth psychotherapy across Michigan. I specialize in working with neurodivergent individuals, including those with Autism, ADHD, and Intellectual Disabilities, as well as people with physical disabilities. I also specialize in working with children as a former school social worker. I have experience with school challenges, home challenges, behavioral challenges and anxiety and depression. My work is rooted in neurodiversity-affirming care, which means I support clients in understanding and embracing their unique ways of thinking and experiencing the world.
My therapy style is collaborative, supportive, and creative. I often incorporate clients’ special interests, play-based principles, bibliotherapy, puppets, and traditional talk therapy. I also draw from approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and DBT principles. I make sure every client has a coping skill "tool box" to help with everyday stressors.
Trying a new therapist can be scary, my main principles are to respect the client, try to understand and to be caring. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and supported. If you’re looking for neurodiversity-affirming therapy, family therapy, or therapy for children, I invite you to reach out and see if we might be a good fit.
I often use Cognitive Behavioral therapy and play based principles in my practice. I also use mindfulness, breathing techniques and teaching coping skills. In my practice you can expect out of the box thinking and unusual but evidence based interventions. CBT and mindfulness work great together. CBT works on thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Mindfulness provides relief from an unregulated body.
