About me
I am a compassionate child therapist dedicated to helping young children uncover their strengths and heal from trauma through the power of play.
Hi, I'm Kate, a dedicated child therapist passionate about supporting children and families on their healing journeys. My training began in 2009 with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department, where I learned the importance of mending family relationships, creating safe communication, and building trust with children. This foundation helped me connect with children and guide them in working through trauma while fostering self-esteem.
In graduate school, I had the opportunity to intern at an agency that solely used Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). I was fortunate to learn this model from therapists with decades of experience. Before this, I never knew therapy could be effective for children as young as preschool age. But I witnessed young children processing complex traumas, such as domestic violence and being raised by grandparents due to parental addiction and incarceration. I realized I had underestimated their abilities and that these children were able to develop healthy social and coping skills that would serve them throughout their lives.
The experience of intervening at such critical developmental stages was too impactful to walk away from. For the past 10 years, I have focused on helping children ages 3-7 uncover their strengths and heal from trauma.
Specializing in play therapy and a variety of evidence-based techniques, I assist children who have encountered domestic violence, divorce, traumatic events, behavioral issues, anxiety, fear, and impulsivity. Children often express themselves best through play, and I use this natural medium to engage with them and foster healing. My therapeutic toolkit includes play therapy, art therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), ensuring a well-rounded approach tailored to each child's needs.
Recognizing the vital role parents play in their child's recovery, I am committed to empowering parents by enhancing their parenting skills and actively involving them in the therapeutic process. By working together, we create a supportive environment that promotes your child's emotional well-being and growth.
To make therapy as accessible and comfortable as possible, I offer in-home and school-based sessions in and around northern Palm Beach County. This allows your child to receive care in familiar and comforting surroundings, facilitating a more effective therapeutic experience.
If your child is facing emotional, behavioral, or social challenges, I am here to help. Together, we can navigate these difficulties and increase your child's positive potential through play, supporting their journey toward resilience and thriving.
