About me
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and former Anthropologist with a long term interest in treating the issues faced by women and adult children in unsupportive families, and in working with clients who have experienced the trauma of immigration, refugee status, or family dysfunction. I love to work with people transitioning from one stage of life to another, and with people working through complex trauma arising out of childhood or lifetime experiences of abuse and loss. I always bring an anthropological eye to my work and learn as much from my patients as they learn from me.
"The coming of a visitor is, in fact, a tremendous moment, because he comes with his past and present and with his future." --Jeong Hyeonjong.
You come to therapy with your past, present, and future too. You are a mixture of things--stuck and unmoored, confused and insightful, capable and overwhelmed. You've reached the point where you want some kind of change because, for all the struggles you are experiencing, you are hopeful. Things were better once, or you know they can be better in the future. You have goals you want to meet, relationships you want to repair, new journeys you dream of beginning, old stories you want to rework. Therapy is the right place for those conversations.
I welcome you into my sunny office--even if only virtually right now. I consider therapy to be a great adventure full of the unexpected, sometimes the unintended, but always, always, full of amazing moments. Are you afraid that therapy will be too quiet? It can be pretty noisy. Too serious? We will find a way to laugh. Too scary? I always begin by setting safe boundaries and teaching skills to manage the unexpected or traumatic. I strive to make every therapy hour and interaction safe, meaningful, and yes, even playful and joyful. Please do call or email and lets have a quick consultation to see if we would work well together.
