About me

I help adults, couples, and families navigate anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, and emotional distress through practical, evidence-based virtual therapy.

Welcome to The Boylan Effect.

Seeking therapy is a meaningful step, whether you're feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, navigating a major life transition, working through relationship challenges, or simply looking to better understand yourself. My goal is to provide a supportive, collaborative space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to make meaningful changes.

I work with adults (18+), couples, and families throughout Maryland and Washington, DC. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma, relationship concerns, communication difficulties, healthy boundary setting, grief, identity exploration, and life transitions. I also enjoy helping clients strengthen emotional regulation and develop practical skills that improve their day-to-day lives.

My approach is individualized because no two people have the same experiences or goals. I integrate evidence-based approaches—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), DBT-informed strategies, Narrative Therapy, and somatic techniques—to meet your unique needs. Together, we'll identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, develop practical coping strategies, improve communication, and build resilience that extends beyond our sessions.

Before becoming a therapist, I studied cognitive science and neuroscience, experiences that continue to inform my understanding of the connection between thoughts, emotions, behavior, and overall well-being. I later earned my Master's in Counseling from Northwestern University and have experience providing therapy in outpatient, intensive outpatient, and private practice settings. This combination of scientific perspective and clinical training allows me to approach therapy with both curiosity and compassion while remaining grounded in evidence-based care.

Whether you're working toward managing stress more effectively, improving your relationships, processing difficult experiences, or creating healthier patterns, therapy can provide a space to gain insight and develop skills that support lasting change. I look forward to helping you take the next step.

I provide secure virtual therapy through SimplePractice for clients throughout Maryland and Washington, DC. If you request an appointment, I'll personally review your request and promptly confirm it or reach out if we need to find another time that better fits your schedule. I also offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation to help determine whether we're a good fit before getting started.
