About me
I have over 20 years of experience in helping support the individuals and family members of those with addictions, Eating Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, Depressive Disorders and Anxiety Disorders. I provide space and safety for positive therapy and personal healing.
People enter therapy at all levels of readiness for change. While some clients recognize the immediate need for change, others need space and time to process their readiness. Ambivalence is an understandable part of a client’s journey. My non-judgmental approach helps clients explore potential barriers in an effort to make positive life choices. I see the therapeutic alliance as absolutely central to the work that is done and the outcomes that are achieved. I create an environment that allows safety, promotes a sense of compassion and empathy and fosters trust. When the therapeutic relationship is strong, clients are empowered to work towards success.
I integrate philosophies and techniques from a variety of counseling approaches and theories. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Reality Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy approaches are all woven into my work with clients.
I am certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT is a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy that allows for a balance between acceptance and change. This therapy has been shown to be incredibly effective with clients whose lives have been driven by intense emotions. DBT is a skill-based approach that covers four main areas of struggle: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness. The skills are aimed at changing behaviors that have led to problems for clients within their relationships and overall functioning in life. Sometimes I use DBT directly with clients; other times I integrate some of the useful skills with other modalities of therapy.
