About me
I am an experienced psychologist dedicated to helping individuals process thoughts and feelings regarding a variety of issues, build healthy coping skills, and increase life satisfaction using one's strengths, abilities, and preferences.
I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology, 2 Masters degrees in Psychology, and a Certificate in Chemical Dependency Counseling.
I have additional certificates in...
I specialize in treating dual diagnosis individuals—those with co-occurring disorders, usually substance abuse, trauma, and mental health issues.
I have worked in the substance abuse and trauma fields for 20 years. My experience covers different levels of treatment, from residential programs and outpatient programs to aftercare services and maintenance. I also ran a Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) program for individuals with opiate addiction. More often than not, people seek treatment for either the substance abuse problem or the mental health issue. However, this can lead to a worsening of the symptoms of the untreated disorder. I don’t treat one or the other; I can help you with both.
Additionally, I wrote an international award-winning workbook for adolescents with substance abuse problems called “The Adolescent Relapse Prevention Planner.” Counselors working with teenagers and parents can use my book.
I work closely with individuals, females and males, who have experienced trauma including sexual assault/rape, sexual abuse/molestation, physical abuse, and verbal (emotional) abuse. I was trained in rape crisis counseling and accompanied victims through the medical and forensic exam. I often utilize the Seeking Safety program to help clients build skills in managing PTSD symptoms and entering recovery.
I see clients who have also experienced traumatic and life-altering accidents and events that subsequently left them with chronic pain and/or chronic conditions. I facilitate a group called Coping with Chronic Pain that focuses on building tools to better manage the chronic pain, gain support, and increase life satisfaction.
