About me
I work in a collaborative, active way to explore issues and identify ways to more fully lead the life you want. My goal is always to personalize our work together to focus on what you want to accomplish in therapy. Sometimes the work is focused on improving relationships, feeling better and improving your ability to manage feelings of anxiety and/or depression. At other times the work is about resolving longstanding issues that have interfered with life for a long time. Whatever the issues are, I am committed to working in a flexible, creative, non-judgmental and compassionate way so you can make the changes you want.
I am privileged to earn the trust of clients who collaborate with me to lessen personal suffering and make desired changes in their lives. After professional training and education at the University of Chicago to be a licensed clinical social worker, I worked for over fifteen years as a therapist at a community mental health center on the northwest side of Chicago. The agency did not refuse service to anyone based on their ability to pay. Serving people from many backgrounds and circumstances has always been important to me, as has client advocacy.
From 2000 until 2024, I had a private practice office in Evanston. In June, 2024 as more and more clients like the flexibility of Zoom, I gave up my office and work mostly online. Also for about a year, I have offered walk and talk therapy in nature. Frequently walking therapy sessions takes place at The Chicago Botanic Garden. There are some private outdoor spaces that allow for in person therapy in nature. It has been very positive for the clients who have chosen to have therapy in this way.
I am an integrative therapist and help clients to notice things in the present moment with their thoughts, emotions and also what is going on in their body. I stay informed of current research studies about what fosters change and growth, and I often share resources with clients.
On days off I love to hike in the woods or at the Chicago Botanic Garden, and on vacation I regularly go outback hiking in the Canadian Rockies. My other hobbies include skiing, cooking, gardening and tennis.
