About me
Hello, my name is Heather. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, committed to fostering hope, healing, and resilience. With a collaborative and compassionate approach, I specialize in counseling trauma survivors and foster care youth. My training and experience cover diverse challenges such as childhood abuse, PTSD, relationship issues, and more.
I am an experienced mental health counselor (LPC). I am dedicated to working with people that have experienced trauma. I engage with clients through a culturally-informed lens and actively work to understand the specific context they experience in their daily lives. I utilize a blend of Cognitive Behavioral, Gestalt Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused, Narrative Therapy, and Psycho-Education to individuals aged 11 and up.
My theory is individuals who have the motivation to improve and courage to seek growth through vulnerability and hard work can accomplish all the goals they desire. My therapeutic approach is grounded in genuine curiosity and warmth to create a non-judgmental and open space where my clients can find healing and growth.
I hold a Masters of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wichita State University, where I completed my internship at WISE, a community clinic focusing on unserved populations. Engaging in grant research, I continuously seek additional perspectives to enhance my counseling skills and contribute to systematic changes.
As a lifelong learner, I actively participate in continuing education workshops, read extensively on mental health, therapy, nutrition, and wellness. I've conducted research on Imposter Syndrome and First Generation Students, presenting my findings in workshops for other First Generation Students. I've also founded peer support groups for LGBTQIA+ youth and parents of children with emotional disturbance.
Outside my counseling practice, I enjoy walks with my therapy dog, Cumin, who is a Mini-American Shepherd. I engage in weightlifting, cooking, love to travel, and cherish time with my family and friends.
If you're seeking meaningful connections, personal growth, and a genuine understanding of your experiences, I invite you to reach out. Your well-being is my priority, and together, we can navigate a path towards healing and authenticity.
