About me
I am an experienced clinical psychologist, dedicated to helping people overcome anxiety, depression, PTSD, chronic pain, and relationship problems.
Since 1973, I have been a practicing clinical psychologist. In 1969, I worked as an 8th grade teacher, after undergraduate and graduate study in philosophy and psychology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During that time, I attended graduate school in philosophy at Duquesne University. After working as a counselor to incarcerated juveniles for several years, I attended graduate training in clinical psychology and child development, receiving an MA from the University of Dayton and a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh, also interning at Dayton Mental Health Center. Before entering private practice, I worked in the fields of corrections, mental retardation, child welfare, vocational rehabilitation, chemical dependency, and taught at Pennsylvania State University. I have been on staff at local hospitals since 1980, consulting with physicians about the care of patients. I am a member of the American Psychological Association, fellow of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, and a founding member and past president of the Association for Comprehensive Psychology (ACEP).
I have done considerable writing about energy psychology (EP) over the past several years. Besides many journal articles and book chapters, I've published 9 books, including Energy Psychology, Energy Tapping for Trauma, and The Tapping Toolbox. I've also published numerous workshop manuals on EP and other therapeutic approaches. You can read about these books and manuals at www.energypsych.com/.
Over the years I've studied and practiced many approaches to therapy, including client centered therapy, gestalt therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, Ericksonian hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), thought field therapy (TFT), and behavioral kinesiology (BK). In the early 1980's, I offered seminars on NLP and Ericksonian hypnosis.
Since 1993, I have been offering training internationally in Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and EP and my various therapeutic methods. After studying TFT for several years, in 1994 I developed TFT courses, which have been offered internationally by many TFT trainers. I also founded a causal diagnostic-therapeutic approach, Energy Diagnostic and Treatment Methods (EDxTM), also called Advanced Energy Psychology (AEP), and have offered certification training in this approach since 1997. Since that time many professionals have been certified in AEP/EDxTM, and several are also offering training in this approach. I also offer training in my various approaches, including Energy Consciousness Therapy (ECT), the Identity Method (IM), Mindful Energy Psychology (MEP), Couples Work, Rapid Relief from Trauma, and Managing Chronic Pain. Training is also available via Skype and Zoom.
In addition to writing and training professionals, I maintain a group clinical practice in Hermitage, PA--Gallo & Associates Psychological Services--which offers services to adults, adolescents, and children. I have also been on staff at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) at Horizon, and provide consultation to the Children's Aid Society of Mercer County.
Fred and Carolyn in beautiful New Wilmington, PA--Amish country. Our home is situated on 10.5 acres with horse barn, run-in, pasture, pond, and guest house. While they’ve had many horses over the years, now we have only one (Pepper), as well as two cats (Ellie and Lucy), and who knows how many fish and turtles in the pond (not sure of their names), plenty of "visiting" Canada geese, mallards, cranes, barn swallows, deer, squirrels, rabbits, and chipmunks (don't know their official names either). Most importantly, there is the privilege of three wonderful and cherished daughters (Aimee, Amy, and Pamela), their loving husbands (Steve, Michael, and Brandon), granddaughter (Hanna), and four grandsons (Aidan, Michael, Ryan. and Sir Oliver). Like everyone, we have our share of trials and tribulations, yet life is really good.
