About me
Something is getting in the way of resolution and growth in your life or the life of someone you care about. You need someone to hear your struggles and support you to reach beyond the difficulties you face. You want help that is personalized to meet your specific needs. You are looking for someone to aid in illuminating your struggles or re-framing issues so you can choose a better course of action or behavior. I have more than 20 years experience working with more than 1000 individuals and families. Let's get you moving toward your brighter future!
Liz obtained a master’s degree in Human Relations and Counseling and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor through the State of Washington. Liz is a board-certified counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) She completed two years post-graduate training with Tulane University certifying as an infant mental health specialist with emphasis on parent-child relationships and attachment. Because attachment is the process of wiring our brains for relationship, this map impacts us throughout life, so Liz is uniquely qualified to work with all ages and life challenges. She has nearly 20 years of experience working with more than 1,000 individuals and families who have faced a multitude of difficulties. She helps with anxiety, depression, parenting, relational issues, and trauma and other challenges. Some of interventions Liz is trained and experienced in are EMDR, EFT, expressive arts therapies, PTSD, women’s issues, and trauma, including domestic violence.
Life is our greatest teacher and in addition to formal education, Liz has broad experiential learning to draw from. She and her husband of more than 30 years have learned lots from family life. They have a large family from biological to adopted, from step to developmentally disabled, their children and grandchildren have provided many opportunities to feel an intense gamut of emotions, gain wisdom, and to experience rupture, struggle and repair. Relationship is her language and the foundation of all she does. Humans are relational – it’s how we’re set up biologically! She’s here to hold space for you to explore, gain insight and find your way on your journey of discovery and growth.
As the founder of Family Essentials Counseling, Liz is passionate about making mental health counseling available to everyone. She is vitally invested in developing and supervising counselors to increase the number of clinicians and the level of support and competency in the field.
Raised in Montana, Liz loves hard work, and being outdoors alone or with her husband and her dog. She thrives on good food, family, reading, learning, moving and creating.
