About me

Supporting Individuals and Couples Through Addiction, Trauma, and Relationship Healing with Validation, Empathy, Compassion, and Clarity.

I’m Elisa Sarmento, licensed psychotherapist and founder of **Healthy Mind Healthy Life Clinics**, with offices in Bloomington, MN, and Wellington, FL. I specialize in helping individuals and couples navigate the complex terrain of addiction, emotional trauma, and relationship wounds. My work is about helping people rebuild—whether it's trust, connection, or a sense of self.

From the beginning of my career, I’ve been passionate about the intersection between mental health and human connection. I’ve seen how addiction, betrayal, and unresolved trauma can profoundly affect individuals and the relationships they value most. I also know that healing is possible when you’re met with the proper support—honest, compassionate, and tailored to your real-life challenges.

I work with individuals struggling with anxiety, codependency, unresolved grief, low self-worth, life transitions, and addictive patterns. I also work extensively with couples dealing with emotional disconnection, trust issues, infidelity, and the impact of substance use on intimacy. Whether you're facing a relapse, a relationship rupture, or a personal identity crisis, my goal is to help you slow down, get clear, and move forward with purpose.

My approach is collaborative, intuitive, and structured. I use evidence-based methods like **Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)**, **Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)**, **Motivational Interviewing**, **Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)**, and **trauma-informed care**, alongside mindfulness and somatic awareness. DBT, in particular, helps clients build emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness—especially in the face of intense emotions or chaotic relationship cycles. But more than anything, I meet you where you are—with honesty and empathy. I believe people are not broken—they are burdened by pain, they haven’t had the tools or space to process their pain. Together, we can change that.

In couples therapy, I help you learn how to speak the truth without attacking, hear each other without defensiveness, and rebuild safety even after profound betrayal. I specialize in working with partners recovering from addiction and betrayal trauma. I also help couples who are unsure whether to stay or go—what I call "the in-between zone"—find clarity without pressure.

For individuals, I offer a judgment-free space to explore how past wounds, unmet needs, and protective patterns show up in your current life. Whether you're a high-achieving professional secretly struggling with burnout or someone who’s always put others first and lost your sense of self, I help you reconnect with your values, boundaries, and internal peace.

What sets my practice apart is that I don’t just offer therapy—I offer transformation. I provide court-approved chemical health evaluations for DUI and legal requirements, and I create digital guides, workshops, and courses to support clients outside of sessions. I understand that healing doesn’t just happen once a week in a 50-minute slot. Sometimes you need tools you can reach for between appointments—whether that’s a boundary script, a journal prompt, or a skill-building video.

I’m bilingual and offer services in both English and Spanish. I also bring a multicultural lens to my work, honoring each client's cultural identity, lived experience, and emotional history.

I welcome people of all backgrounds, including those who’ve been hesitant to try therapy because they’ve felt judged, misunderstood, or rushed in the past. My space is a no-pressure, no-perfection, no-performance zone. You don’t have to have it all figured out before you reach out.

Clients often tell me they feel seen in ways they never have before. They say they’ve stopped walking on eggshells, started standing up for themselves, and finally understand their patterns. I’m here to help you create that same shift, whether you’re walking through the door solo or sitting beside someone you love but feel distant from.

Therapy with me is not passive. I will guide you, challenge you, and walk with you through grief, anger, resistance, growth, and repair. You can expect a mix of validation, insight, accountability, and warmth.

Whether you’re recovering from a breakup, rebuilding after addiction, navigating cultural identity struggles, or trying to save a relationship on the brink—I’m here for the messy middle. I believe that’s where the real healing happens.

If you're ready to break free from old cycles and move toward a more honest, connected life, I invite you to reach out. It’s not too late. You are not too far gone. Your story isn’t over. And you don’t have to do this alone.
