About me
I am a dedicated psychologist devoted to being of service to those experientially difficulties in their life through a focus on improving behavior in physical health, finding psychological flexibility, and recreating purpose.
My journey to becoming a licensed psychologist began when my mentor (a child psychologist of 50 years) encouraged me to go to graduate school to better serve people. My personality is typically considered one of calm, passion, strength, and virtue. My path in psychology has expanded my view of the human experience when considering the relationship between the mind, body, and soul as a means of alleviating suffering. My practice is based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) through supervision and personal investment. I participate in psychotherapy interactively, creatively, and gracefully to ensure you feel empowered to move toward your authenticity and retain your autonomy. I persistently invest in personal and academic growth to be more present in each therapy session.
I develop the frame for therapy by beginning with a self-introduction, orientation to therapy, and an extensive intake session or two to get to know what contexts and circumstances have contributed to your current distress. I will then discuss with you various aspects of how I conceptualize your experience and offer direction. I work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan based on a healthier presentation of psychological experience and behavior. At the end of every session, I will provide an opportunity to reflect on what was purposeful from the session, what you will do to act on changes until the next session, and feedback on how to improve our working relationship or progress. This is done to bring closure to the session and orient toward the momentum of the next week.
I continue learning and gaining competency in the field of psychotherapy in many ways. First, I'm dedicated to my own personal healing and health journey, allowing me to be centered when working with the needs of others. Second, I join networking, consulting, and think tanks with other mental health professionals for perspectives, inspiration, and knowledge. I have a broad interest in what ails the psychology of humans and have an interest in learning about the interface of physical and spiritual health within psychology and how to advance in the practices addressing human suffering. I am continuously working on ways to elevate my practice as well as improve the lives of other therapists and people in search of healing resources.
How do your own core values shape your approach to care?
My core values shape my approach by recognizing that each person deserves to be free of their own suffering and invested in a fulfilling life. I incorporate my chosen values by acknowledging that the effort of healing one’s suffering is less convenient and challenging than continuing to go through life in a dreadful familiarity. My persistence, maybe even stubbornness, allows me the vision to be relentless in the growth of the people I work with through compassion, hope, and acceptance. Regarding cultural sensitivity, I have had to do much reflection and training on how life circumstances have been insulated by societal acceptance of my physical stature and appearance, gender, sexuality, and health. In doing so, I developed graciousness and now invite anyone who may have differences to understand and share a diversity of perspectives.
