About me
I am a passionate therapist with over 35 years of experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Over the years, I have learned a lot from my clients and continuing education. This allows me to choose the proper treatment for a client since, in therapy, there is no such thing as "one size fits all." I meet my patients where they are and listen to them intently to help them achieve their goals. There isn't always a cure, but healing is always possible. I help people heal from anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship problems.I do that by integrating various kinds of therapies. My favorite ones are humanistic, experiential, systemic, and holistic. Phew, that was a mouthful. By "holistic," I mean that I pay attention to the interplay between mind, body, and spirit. For those familiar with therapy vernacular, I like to incorporate Rogerian, IFS, ACT, DBT, CBT, Polyvagal, and Emotionally Focused and sprinkle it with a little Jungian therapy.
I grew up in Poland and Germany. After studying clinical psychology at Ruhr University Bochum, I received a degree "Diplom Psychologin." I arrived in the US in 1986 to study marriage and family therapy. I studied at the U of M for two years and completed an internship which opened the path for licensure. I married an American and raised three children.
My own traumatic life experiences led me to specialize in trauma and couples therapy.
I have been interested in the human condition for as long as I can remember. The same is true for being a spiritual seeker. I am a Benedictine Oblate and, if requested, help my clients bring Benedictine Spirituality into their lives. I am extensively trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I am a so-called "out of network" therapist. Clients pay me for their sessions, and if they have out-of-network benefits, they file for insurance reimbursement.
In my free time, I love to travel and be outdoors. I like to hike and bike and cross-country ski in the winter. I like to learn and be open to new experiences and adventures.
