About me
In one's walk towards wholeness and change, there are various barriers and hindrances one must overcome: The prism in which we view life, the messages we received about ourselves from our family of origin, what has happened to us and what we tell ourselves about it, our fear of feelings, and our learned coping mechanisms are just a few. As a Christian counselor, it is my desire to provide a safe and accepting environment in which we can walk and work together to expose, understand, and overcome these barriers.
I am a Masters level, Licensed Professional Counselor, specializing in individual, marriage, and family therapy, as a private practitioner at Dolores Guilliod Christian Counseling Services. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut, and my Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University in Garland, Texas.
I have worked with adolescents and troubled youth for over twenty-five (25) years within the state and county juvenile justice systems. As a “hands-on” counselor, I have conducted home assessments to determine the appropriateness and safety of alternative home placements for children who have been removed from their family due to abuse and neglect. In addition, I have conducted home studies for families who desire to adopt.
In my practice, I have the privilege of working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and with a range of presenting problems; including, individuals struggling with grief, depression, and OCD. I counsel married couples desiring healing from a spouse's infidelity or those just seeking to obtain a deeper connection with their spouse.
In addition, I work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues, and offer a highly personalized approach in order to help my clients attain the personal growth they’re striving for. My counseling approach incorporates a Biblical model of counseling, in conjunction with an Eclectic approach, to include Resotration therapy. This approach allows for a more tailored and customized approach that best responds to the needs of my clients. As we walk together, we work for “PROGRESS – NOT PERFECTION”.
While there are many available options within an Eclectic approach, the Biblical approach provides a Christ centered foundation, a reliance upon the infallible Word of God and the power of prayer, to surpass the limitations of man. I will not impose by beliefs on you and will not assume that you want spiritual interventions in counseling. Only with your permission will I incorporate scripture or prayer into our sessions.
