Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples:
When people decide to marry their fortunes together, they have hopes and dreams for a safe and secure haven, a deep and loving connection. Life will be happy now! But somewhere along the line something happens to that connection, and the conflicts begin. It doesn’t seem to matter what it’s about – kids, money, sex, chores, affairs – it’s the same negative cycle of conflict over and over. It’s like a dance in which each partner unintentionally yet predictably steps on the other’s toes again and again. It’s incredibly painful. Emotionally Focused Therapy, EFT, is an evidence-based therapy grounded in attachment science with a solid track record for helping couples in distress. EFT hones in on that negative cycle of conflict, tags it, makes it easier to see and move out of. The energy withdrawn from that negative cycle is freed up to flow into positive cycles of love, mutual support, and connection.

Internal Family Systems for Individuals:
When we become stuck in patterns of distress we lose connection with our innate capabilities. We are born playful and exploratory, ready to take on the world, but sometimes life throws major curves. We may become anxious, depressed, self-blaming, conflicted, at odds with parts of ourselves. We become our own worst enemy. Internal Family Systems, IFS, is an evidence-based therapy that works on the inside to resolve those struggles and help internal parts pull together. In short, we become our own best friend. The goal is restored connection with that deep inner wellspring of innate capabilities. increased sense of self-worth and well-being, increased resilience, and being at ease with ourselves. IFS is a broad spectrum therapy for a wide range of conditions such as anxiety, depression, symptoms of trauma, and more.

Trauma-informed Therapy:
The past decade has seen major advances in trauma therapy. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I practice evidence-based treatments that provide genuine relief and healing. Newer and ever more successful treatments help trauma victims understand and regulate their reactive emotions and extreme behaviors, settle and calm their minds and bodies, and resolve their symptoms in gentler ways. Of course, no therapy is without sometimes tough work and sometimes strong emotion, but as one client said, “I got in touch with a lot of hurt, but this time, it was good hurt, the kind that heals.”

Experience and Training
I’ve spent over 20 years in the mental health field, working in hospital, community mental health, and private practice settings. I spent two years with an organization providing specialized services for treatment of sexual abuse. I served as the department head of psychology providing treatment, supervision of staff and students, psychological and forensic assessments, and training to local social service and court systems.
I strongly believe in having a full toolbox of therapy tools. That means ongoing training. Besides the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, I took a post-doc year in Systemic Family Therapy. I’ve taken advanced couples workshops with Terrance Real, LCSW; Internal Family Systems with Frank Anderson, MD; Mindfulness and Psychotherapy with Ron Siegel, Ph.D.; Ericksonian Hypnosis with Jeff Zeig, PhD, Bill O’Hanlon, MA; Trauma Therapy with Eric Gentry, Ph.D. and Robert Rhoton, Ph.D. and more.
