About me
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) offering online therapy in California and Colorado for anxiety, depression, career stress, and trauma. I help high-achieving professionals recover from burnout through career counseling and strengths-based approaches, and I use trauma-informed methods like EMDR, IFS, and somatic therapy to support healing from trauma, depression, and anxiety.
I'm Dana Markee, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California. I work with individuals and couples who are ready for meaningful change, whether that's healing from trauma, quieting anxiety, breaking free from burnout, or rebuilding trust and connection in a relationship.
My journey to therapy
Before becoming a therapist, I spent 20 years as a marketing executive collaborating with Fortune 100 companies. I saw firsthand how high-pressure careers can quietly drain people: the exhaustion, the self-doubt, the strained relationships, the sense that something is missing even when everything looks fine from the outside. That experience is why I'm so passionate about helping people who are used to carrying it all and who are ready to feel better, not just function better.
When I decided to make a change, I earned my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy with a focus in Professional Clinical Counseling from Touro University. Since then, I've worked in both community organizations and private practice, supporting adults, adolescents, couples, and families impacted by trauma and domestic violence. I'm also a certified domestic violence counselor, so I bring deep experience supporting people through trauma and complex relationship dynamics, always at your pace, with no pressure.
My approach
My approach is grounded, collaborative, and tailored to you. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all formula. Instead, we'll start where you are and build a plan around what you actually need.
For high-achieving professionals navigating career stress and burnout, I blend career counseling, strengths-based work, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) to help you build sustainable balance and reclaim a sense of purpose. I know what it's like to feel undervalued, overextended, or trapped in a role that no longer fits, and I'll help you figure out what needs to change, both internally and practically.
When it comes to healing from trauma, depression, and anxiety, I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), including Somatic EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic therapy and polyvagal-informed techniques to help your nervous system feel safe enough to heal. We'll work at a pace that feels right for you, and I'll always check in to make sure you feel grounded and in control of the process.
Who I work with
I work with individuals and couples navigating a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, career stress and burnout, life transitions, relationship issues, substance use, grief, and self-esteem struggles. I also support couples who want to break old cycles, improve communication, rebuild trust, or reconnect after drifting apart. My door is open to clients of all identities, backgrounds, and relationship structures, and I'm committed to providing affirming, inclusive care.
What to expect
Therapy shouldn't feel like another performance. In our sessions, you can expect a warm, honest, and judgment-free space where you can bring your whole self. I'll listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, and offer practical tools you can use between sessions. I'm also happy to be transparent about the process, so you'll always know why we're doing what we're doing and how it connects to your goals.
I offer online therapy throughout California, which means you can attend sessions from the comfort of your own space, no matter where you live in the state. I also offer a free 15-minute intro call so we can make sure we're a good fit before getting started.
Why I do this work
Therapy isn't about fixing what's "wrong" with you. It's an opportunity to cultivate curiosity, courage, and compassion as you understand your patterns, process past experiences, and unlock your strengths. My goal is to help you see new possibilities, reclaim confidence, and create relationships that feel balanced and real. You don't have to have it all figured out. You're welcome exactly as you are, and I'd be honored to walk alongside you.
