About me

Licensed Professional Counselor with a passion for serving neurodiverse people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ orientations, and BIPOC identities

Hello there :) My name is Cindy!
I love to accompany adolescents and adults throughout their explorations of life's big existential questions. Clients often come to me wondering...
"Who am I/who do I want to be?"
"Why does life matter to me/what does it mean?"
"What is my desired purpose?"
"Where do I fit into society?"
"Why does my mind work the way it does?"
"How do I live life in a way that works for me?"
"How do I deal with suffering?"
"When will I reach my potential?"
... And so many more.
The good news is that we are all here in life to learn, grow, heal, love, and self-actualize. Some answers are easy, while many others are not so straightforward. As a psychotherapist, I am here for you to share what I know, to guide you to find your own answers, and to navigate figuring out this journey together. Here's what that can look like:
* Empathetic listening and careful analysis of your cognitive, emotional, relational, and behavioral patterns.
* Validation of your personal perspective, yet honesty about angles which could reframe it.
* Open-ended questioning--AKA, Socratic questioning--because the wisest teachers are often those who answer with a thought-provoking question.
* Dissemination and implementation of therapeutic tools for managing mood, increasing mindfulness, accommodating your needs, expressing yourself through art, processing past trauma, and even interpreting your dreams.
* Psychoeducating you on how neurodivergences and mental health influence your traits, challenges, and strengths.
* Using principles of feminism, sociology, and multiculturalism to empower you despite systemic barriers.
* Helping you to gain and practice insights that build your senses of self-love, compassion, and acceptance.
All of that said, I employ the following therapeutic theories and approaches:
1) Existential psychotherapy
2) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
3) Diagnostic assessments for autism, ADHD, and mental health conditions. (Note: While my profile says I offer psychological testing/evaluation, I am *NOT a psychologist. We could better call it "psychodiagnostic" or "psychotherapeutic" assessment.")
4) Rehabilitation / career counseling
5) Transpersonal perspectives
6) Elements of Internal Family Systems
7) Expressive arts
8) Cognitive-experiential dreamwork
9) Eclectic counseling
10) Christian/faith-based counseling, if requested
I provide sessions via telehealth (Therapy Portal, to be specific). We can do talk therapy via video + audio or just audio, or if you are Deaf, hard of hearing, nonspeaking/nonverbal, or experience selective mutism, then we can use the type chat feature. For individuals with vision impairments, my director and I have found accessible methods and tools for diagnostic assessment.
If you are socially anxious and camera shy, let's just say I can't see the camera, anyway. ;) If you use an AAC with synthesized speech, I'm plenty used to listening to robot voices (I.E., a screen reader like JAWS/NVDA), so it's all good. And if you need to bring an interpreter of sign language, Spanish, or any other language, I'm happy to accommodate. :)
My individual therapy and assessment services are for persons aged 16-99+. I offer weekend and evening availability, can extend a sliding scale rate for counseling, and I take a handful of insurances for both counseling and assessment. In fact, I am in the process of getting panneled with more insurances. For those who want more information before trying therapy, a free 15-minute phone or chat consultation is available upon request. So if you're ready to get started, give me a call or send me an email, as I am eager and ready to work with you!
