About me
I help adults with anxiety and trauma find a sense of calm and peace in themselves and the world around them.
Anne has that feeling of that lump in her throat, thinking that something terrible is about to happen. This conversation between the two parts of her she hears all the time "it will be ok," "it is not so bad," and "you are so stupid" "you can not do anything right" "you do not ever learn". It is the same conversation every day, and most days, Anne walks around making excuses for why she cannot attend things, or she will tell herself she will feel better tomorrow. Thes feelings will go away. She will be better. She sees her friends being better and doing things differently and then she feels worse for not being able to be like her friends and be happy like they are because there has to be something wrong with her. That is what she is telling herself.
Like many of us, Anne is telling herself many things that are not true. Unfortunately, we believe something about selves that are not true because we have heard them in our head for so long that we assume if we say it must be true.
Life can be different. You do not need to worry so much about things that either have happened in the past or will happen in the future. It can seem like a lot to not worry about the future or not think about bad things all the time, and it is possible. However, it takes time, it takes commitment, and it takes doing something about it. I will work with you to help you achieve your goals for yourself and your life. I will help find the best way for you to move forward and help you learn ways not to get stuck in the thoughts and patterns that will keep you in your past.
I use various techniques and modalities that will be best suited to you. We will discuss the treatment so that it will fit best for you. I am trained in EMDR Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, which can help reprocess memories for the past about traumatic situations. It can also help with promoting positive habits for future reference.
ACT or Acceptance Commitment Therapy is from the cognitive-behavioral world and emphasizes taking action on the plans you make. It also discusses values and goals, the differences, and why values are important.
Animal Assisted Activities and Equine Assisted Activities are also something that I use to help people who are stuck to experience something different and get outside and move around and do something from a different perspective.
I believe the therapy is a healing experience, so I will work with you to help you achieve the goals you have for yourself. I will help you to find a sense of calm not one in yourself but also in the world around you.
