About me
I am a hypnotherapist and a philosophical counselor who is dedicated to helping people make deep, transformative change efficiently and effectively.
Christian Skoorsmith, MA, PsyD(c), is an award-winning mental health professional in Seattle, Washington. He offers evidence-based techniques in hypnosis and philosophical counseling to help people who are struggling to make the change or be the person they want. While his practice specializes in a number of issues, such as pain management, fears, working with tinnitus, and working with transgender clients, Christian's passion area is helping people address and overcome relationship-based trauma. That can present in people's lives in a variety of ways, from anger management, to always needing to be right, to relationship or attachment issues, to poor relationship boundaries, to trouble with assertiveness or people-pleasing, to choosing the wrong kinds of partners, to stress management, to procrastination, and more. Christian also supports traditional behavior-modification such as quitting smoking, biting nails, or changing a relationship with food.
Christian focuses his practice in two broad areas: hypnotherapy and philosophical counseling. In hypnosis, he employs the latest insights from neuropsychology in a systematic, evidence-based process, to quickly identify and transform the root psycho-emotional causes for distress and troubling reactions/behaviors. In philosophical counseling, he works with clients to gain clarity about our reasons and reasoning for making the choices or responding the way we do. In both approaches, Christian is deeply (com)passionate about empowering individuals with their own resources (mental, emotional, physical) to take more control of their own lives. His practice, one of the highest-rated in the region, has been called by The Seattle Times "the best alternative therapy in the Pacific Northwest" and "the best mental health service in the Pacific Northwest."
Christian is a sought-after speaker across the nation on topics related to hypnosis, hypnotherapy, consciousness, and working with LGBTQ clientele. He is the author of five books and more than 50 articles in professional and academic journals. Christian holds degrees in philosophy, religion, and psychology, as well as certifications in Jungian psychotherapy, sandplay therapy, and advanced hypnotherapeutic techniques. He is a member of the American Psychological Assocation, American Philosophical Association, the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH), and the International Association of Hypnosis Professionals (IAHP). He is double-Board Certified (NGH & IAHP), and is a Fellow of the NGH - a distinction fewer than 1/4 of 1% of hypnotists achieve, and the only NGH Fellow in Washington State. Christian is currently in candidacy for his Doctorate in Psychology focused on psychodynamic psychotherapies.
Christian always offers free consultations in order to determine if hypnosis or philosophical counseling is the right avenue to take, and if Christian is the right professional for the client. No pressure, no obligation.
