About me
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and an art therapist (ATR) and have been working with adolescents and adults for more than 10 years. I am passionate about providing mental health and well-being to adolescents and adults who are currently struggling. I use several modalities - whichever one works for you! - to help address symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, and grief.
I have my Master's degree in Art Therapy Counseling. I have worked with teenagers in various settings and levels of care since 2012 as a clinician and a care staff. I have helped with suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, OCD, autism, substance use, ADHD, and other mental health concerns over the years. I have used a plethora of modalities: CBT, DBT, EMDR, art therapy, client-centered therapy, MI, existentialism, and others.
In sessions with me, it often feels like having a conversation, but my responses will always be based in one therapeutic modality or another, depending on your needs, preferences, abilities, and strengths. I believe that a person's emotional well-being is affected by their environment, behaviors, thoughts, and trauma. I often use a social justice modal while talking with my clients, and will often consider the greater context of why a person is struggling. It's not all "just in your head!"
I work at a group private practice: Brave Acorn, in Portland, OR. I am licensed to meet with anyone virtually who is in the state of Oregon. Brave Acorn takes several (but not all) insurances, so please check the website: https://braveacorn.com/staff/carmen-calvert-lpc/ If you would like a consultation before starting the intake process to make sure we are a good fit please email me at carmen.calvert@braveacorn.com
