About me
With over 35 years of experience, I have seen how one’s past wounds can interfere with a person living the best life possible. My role is to assist you to heal from wounds from the past, cope better in the present and have a more promising future. You may ask, “Is this as good as it gets?” The answer is that it does not have to be. There is an inner resiliency that needs to be brought out and cultivated. It is important to take care of our mind, body, and spirit. I have helped clients with depression, trauma, addiction, self-defeating behavior and long-term mental health issues. All of the above impact one’s relationships. I have learned that the therapeutic relationship itself is important in the healing journey. Currently, I focus solely on individual sessions, both live and via telehealth.
With the above in mind, I believe it is key to identify and change the messages we tell ourselves that hinder our living the best life possible. Often, these messages are from a long time ago. They are shaming and self-defeating. Once started, the trajectory of these internalized messages can be one of self-destruction, fear, and dissatisfaction with life. Changing one’s thoughts and behavior are not easy. Thus, I recognize the cognitive-behavioral model as being helpful in this area. Other approaches are also used (e.g., attachment, DBT, object relations, the 12 Steps, ACT, and interpersonal character styles). I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and that body of knowledge informs me too. In order to begin to have a therapeutic relationship, it is imperative we meet initially face to face for an assessment and a few sessions in person.
