About me

I’m an Ohio licensed counselor who helps couples break patterns of conflict and rebuild trust, and supports individuals navigating anxiety, ADHD, depression, and relationship challenges.

Having the same argument over and over is exhausting. You may start a conversation hoping this time will be different, only to end up feeling hurt, misunderstood, or farther apart. Maybe trust has been damaged. Maybe you still care deeply about each other but feel more like roommates than partners. If that sounds familiar, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I’m Brian Girton, a licensed professional clinical counselor in Ohio. I help couples understand the patterns behind their conflicts, communicate more clearly, rebuild trust, and reconnect. I also work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, loneliness, relationship concerns, and stressful life changes. I offer virtual counseling to clients in Ohio.

My style is warm, direct, and practical. I want you to have room to talk honestly about what’s happening without feeling judged. I’ll listen carefully, ask questions that help us get beneath the surface, and work with you on skills you can use outside of our sessions. Insight matters, but it’s especially helpful when you know what to do differently the next time a difficult moment comes up.

In couples counseling, I’m interested in what happens *between* you when things go wrong. One person may push for a conversation while the other shuts down. A small disagreement may turn into a debate about years of unresolved hurt. You may both want to feel loved and understood, yet keep missing each other. We’ll work to recognize those patterns, make space for both perspectives, and practice new ways to respond. When trust has been broken, we can address the hurt directly and look at what rebuilding it would require.

For individual clients, therapy can be a place to slow down and make sense of what you’re carrying. You may feel anxious much of the time, disconnected from others, stuck after a breakup or divorce, or unsure why you keep reacting in ways you later regret. We can explore what’s driving those feelings and develop realistic ways to cope, communicate, and make decisions that reflect what matters to you.

You don’t need to know exactly what to say or have a clear plan before reaching out. We can start with what has been difficult lately and what you hope might feel different. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can ask questions, tell me a little about what you’re looking for, and see whether I’m a good fit.
