About me
We are a collective of trauma healing providers with the mission to promote health equity through increasing access to evidence-based trauma treatment while utilizing insurance benefits so that this care is both high quality and affordable to more people.
Hello! What a courageous step you are taking in your healing journey to seek therapy. Welcome. Therapy is a space to expand what is going on in your life, notice your coping mechanisms with less judgment and more curiosity, decide and move towards your personal values and find freedom. I take a mind-body approach to healing with an eclectic style of therapy that emphasizes the innate worthiness of us all. We could be a good fit if you are looking to explore the impact of past experiences on your here and now body sensations, emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.
Bonfire Healing has a collective of trauma therapists that are trained in evidenced based modalities including EMDR, IFS, DBT, and Somatic Experiencing. We work to look at all mental health and behavioral issues through a trauma informed lens and focus on person centered approaches to trauma healing.
“We need to stop seeing people for what is wrong with them and instead ask what has happened to them.” - Gabor Mate This quote by Dr. Mate speaks to the issues within our healthcare system, including our mental health care system, of generally focusing on managing of symptoms and blaming willpower when change proves difficult. This often leads to feelings of hopelessness and self blame which then perpetuates mental health and physical health symptoms. At Bonfire Health, we recognize that trauma and stress responses impact all aspects of our mental and physical health and often underly chronic conditions and contribute to anxiety, panic responses, mood disorders, ADHD, addictions, eating disorders, self harming behaviors, maladaptive behaviors, autoimmune issues, chronic pain, and chronic illness. We also recognize that trauma is pervasive and takes many forms including verbal and physical abuse, neglect, attachment issues, marginalization, discrimination, bullying, and any other event(s) that lead us to question our physical, social (belonging), or emotional safety. For true healing we must include trauma treatment that heals both mind and body through building strong therapeutic relationships, releasing traumatic memories, understanding and calming our nervous system responses, and finding ways to regulate inflammatory responses utilizing both trauma therapy and holistic nourishment. We believe that healing happens within relationship and therefore we emphasize a safe, secure, and nonjudgemental space in which there is freedom to speak freely and openly about experiences both outside and inside of therapy.
Bonfire Healing is owned and supervised by Bonnie Deopp, MS, LMHC, CN Bonnie has limited spaces for new clients and there are not always openings.
Bonnie has a dual degree in Clinical Psychology and Nutrition with specializations in trauma treatment and utilize eclectic bottom-up therapies including Somatic Experiencing Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She has been honored to work in inpatient and outpatient eating disorder, addiction, and mental health treatment centers and with transgender females within a male prison system which has emphasized the need for social justice oriented, inclusive therapy.
Bonnie's statement on Diversity: You belong here. I am committed to supporting you across all intersections of identity and I strive to be multiculturally competent through advocacy, self education with self identity exploration, and truly listening to others’ experiences. I welcome those across the global majority, the LGBTQ+ community, people of all body sizes, adult ages, and abilities, all religious and non-religious beliefs, practices, and culture, women, and immigrants. Part of my role is to help you work towards self love and acceptance in order to de-internalize stigmas and learn to fully celebrate and advocate for yourself. These are powerful tools against the impact of discrimination and marginalization in health care and in our society.
As a nutritionist and mental health counselor, I am committed to Health at Every Size ® and Body Trust to heal from the traumatic impact of weight bias and stigma and regain innate body wisdom and connection. Our relationship to food and nourishment shares a lot about our relationship to ourselves. As needed, I am passionate about helping you find peace within your relationship with food and your body through collaborative and intuitive integration of nutrition and mental health counseling. From a trauma perspective, nourishment is an important part of helping with nervous system regulation, reduction of inflammation, and increasing acts of self-compassion.
On a personal note, in my time outside of work, I can be found around town with my wife and kiddo at various coffee and tea shops, parks, playgrounds, and sidewalk dining. I love cooking, fermenting, audio book listening, lounging, hiking, kayaking, and patio gardening.
