About me

Hello and welcome. My name is Barb, and I am an LCSW-C located in Frederick County, MD. Over the past 2 decades in the mental health field, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of various therapeutic techniques and methodologies from working in clinical out-patient and hospital-based settings with children, teens, couples and adults. For the past 11 years, I've been doing private practice-based work and have been primarily virtual since 2023. I attended the University of Maryland at College Park and received my bachelor’s in psychology and then received my master's in clinical social work with a minor in Program Administration from the University of Maryland in Baltimore in 2001. I'm also a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional.

I currently provide telehealth therapy to adult women ages 18-65 years old experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, low self-esteem, single motherhood, burnout from career, family responsibilities, and relationships, problems in their marriage, family or personal life, chronic health/medical issues that impact mental health, and trauma from current or past relationships. I also work with women dealing with fertility issues, complicated pregnancy, infant loss, premature delivery, and postpartum mental health and adjustment issues. I have a lot of experience working with teachers and nurses. Also, being a single mother myself, I offer a relatable perspective to women in this situation as well as strategies to tackle the unique challenges single moms deal with on a day-to-day basis.

As a Christian, I'm happy to discuss with you how to use Scripture, prayer and your relationship with God to support you in your path to wellness, health and healing if that is something that is important to you. I am open to clients of all faiths and backgrounds. If your faith or spiritual beliefs are important to you, we can discuss how to integrate those into our sessions.

If you are an adult female and you have a strong desire to work on yourself, your relationships and take steps to become the best version of yourself, then I may be the right person for you. A huge focus of therapy with me is learning how to change unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, into healthy ones. We do this by learning how to identify our unhealthy thoughts, mental scripts and coping strategies, and then identifying healthy replacement thoughts and behaviors for you to practice working on until they become your go-to effective coping strategies, replacing things that no longer serve you or others. If you are ready to actively work on addressing the issues in your life that are causing problems, learn how to develop a growth mindset and overcome challenges you are facing, then please contact me and let's get you started on a new, better path. There are no quick fixes in therapy. It is a process where we work together in helping you be the best version of yourself. Through therapy I can help you figure out how you need to grow and change and provide and teach tools, knowledge and skills in order to help you do that. I use a mix of clinical modalities in my work with clients such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person Centered Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. Therapy with me is collaborative and we will work together on establishing your goals and what you will be working on in and out of therapy.

I think I am different from other therapists because I truly enjoy helping people and listening. I care about my clients and want them to get better. I like to see my clients improve and no longer need therapy. Also, I try to make things as easy as possible for clients from scheduling, communicating with me in and out of sessions, and consistently being on time and available for when our sessions are supposed to take place. Therapy should never add stress to your life when you are already dealing with sometimes many other things. I'm looking forward to working with you! Remember, you are never alone and it is always ok to seek out help when you need it.
