About me
I am an experienced clinical social worker and therapist that specializes in working with primarily individual that are 55+ though I enjoy seeing adults of all ages. My specialty areas of practice include: anxiety, depression, major life changes and role reversal, complicated grief and loss, complex trauma, end of life planning, terminal prognoses, physical and cognitive health changes, and caregiver stress and burnout. I use a combination of therapies including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).
I grew up in small town Nebraska working as a nurse assistant in a rural nursing home. That job was a turning point in my life that allowed me to discover my passion for working with the elderly, especially those living with dementia. I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education and Human Sciences with minors in Gerontology and Psychology. After graduation, I worked in a variety of social service positions in Central Nebraska, though my desire to continue to work with the elderly persisted. I decided to pursue my Master’s of Social Work degree and Gerontology Certificate at the University of Nebraska-Omaha because I wanted to gain the skills to better communicate and assist older adults as they age. My experience includes working in an inpatient geriatric psychiatric unit, outpatient behavioral health clinic, long term care, hospice, and memory care facilities.
I believe that all of us experience times in our life when we need someone to walk alongside us and help us through uncharted life experiences. I enjoy being able to help others realize their self-worth, promote overall health and wellness, and provide motivation to help them attain their personal goals.
