About me
April Chen is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Certified Grief-Informed Professional (CGP), and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (CCTS) providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to clients across the lifespan, from school-aged children and adolescents to adults and gerontological clients. Her primary areas of specialization include grief and loss, trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
April has extensive experience supporting individuals navigating traumatic experiences, complicated grief and bereavement, life transitions, emotional regulation difficulties, and the challenges associated with ADHD. Her therapeutic approach is individualized, trauma-informed, and holistic, recognizing that each client's experiences, strengths, relationships, and goals are unique. She incorporates a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches based on each client's clinical needs and currently offers Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for PTSD, both in person and through telehealth when clinically appropriate.
April provides hybrid outpatient therapy through Lartey Wellness Group and Ready for Change Health and Wellness, LLC, with in-person services available in Laurel, Maryland, as well as telehealth services. Both practices are conveniently located on the ninth floor in Suites 906 and 900.
In addition to psychotherapy, clients may have access through the practices to comprehensive behavioral health assessments, holistic treatment planning, medication-management services, psychiatric nurse practitioner evaluations, and connections to additional community resources when appropriate. The practices accept several insurance plans, including Maryland Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, and Aetna, as well as self-pay options. Insurance participation and individual benefits should be verified directly with the practice.
April welcomes individuals and families seeking support for grief, trauma, PTSD, ADHD, and other mental health concerns and strives to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel respected, supported, and empowered as they work toward meaningful and sustainable change.
