About me
I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who is passionate about helping teens and adults work through issues around Imposter Syndrome, Body Image, and Emotional Dysregulation.
I have a particular passion for working with teens and adults who are artistic and often swing between feeling confident about their creations to doubting their abilities. I am interested in helping clients work through anxieties related to imposter syndrome, mood disorders, body image and issues stemming from multigenerational traumas. Additionally, I work with those who grew up in multi-racial/cultural households and often don’t know where they belong or fit in, constantly feeling the pressure to choose a side to identify with. Often, we get stuck in this narrative that we don’t belong anywhere, focusing on what separates us. I work alongside you, exploring the ways you do fit in and helping you discover what value you wish to bring to your life and community.
My style is strengths-based. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFT), Dance Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Jungian-Based Practices, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This approach allows me to work around the goals you wish to create in therapy as well as honoring each of your unique and changing needs.
My background in competitive Latin dancing and choreography has influenced my understanding of movement as a tool for storytelling, processing and integrating experiences. I believe that movement & somatic work can help us grasp concepts on a deeper level than intellectual understanding alone. I am not a practicing Dance/Movement therapist, however I incorporate certain styles of dancing, for those interested, to help you explore and recreate your connection to yourself and to others in a safe and controlled setting.
For me, therapy is a space where you can re-experience the support and validation you might have missed in the past, through the connection created between the therapist and client. I am committed to creating a safe and creative environment where you can explore different parts of your identity, regulate emotions around past negative experiences, and learn to integrate both the liked and not-so-liked parts of yourself. Through this integration, you can learn to step out of surviving and into thriving.
