About me
I am a licensed therapist specializing in sexuality and relationships, and I really enjoy partnering with clients who are facing down a change in their lives- including things like aging, new partnerships, divorce, loss, and parenthood.
I have been described as a grounded, authentic presence who is able to help folks to feel attended to and understood. I am able to do this through my training as a clinical social worker, and through my innate ability to imagine myself in another person's shoes and find empathy and compassion. I have been a social worker in the mental health field since 2014, and have been "a sex nerd" (what I enjoy terming myself as rather than listing the various trainings and life experiences I've had that have taught me much about human sexual functioning) for as long as I can remember! If you're into knowing what therapeutic modalities your therapist works from, I use a lot of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy principles, attachment theory, and family of origin exploration in my clinical practice, with healthy doses of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gottman Method, and Exposure Response Prevention. I take the Rogerian concept of unconditional positive regard to heart- I will call folks out if they're behaving in ways that are not in alignment with their goals and values, but with love and lack of judgement.
I really enjoy the human connection aspect of my work, and bring my genuine self to the room. As such, you'll likely hear me curse, laugh, and not take myself too seriously- if you want the traditional buttoned-up therapist who won't share with you whether or not they have children (I do) or have been through similar struggles, I am likely not a great fit. There's a great deal of worth in knowing what we are and are not, and accepting the traits and habits that we cannot (or do not want) to change about ourselves, and I happen to model that belief in my sessions.
