About me

Thank you for taking your time to read my profile. My name is Adama and I am a Person-Centred Integrative counsellor. I qualified as a counsellor in 2020 having completed TC - L4 Diploma In Therapeutic Counselling at Inspire Counselling /Barnabas Counselling and Training. This was followed by me completing the BACP accreditation and moving from a student member to a member of BACP as a qualified counsellor.
I adhere to BACP Ethical Framework to ensure that my way of working with clients is ethical, professional, and always with the client's best interests in mind.
I currently work as a sessional counsellor at Survivors in Transition, where I completed my placement 5 years ago and where I and remained.
My role involves helping clients make sense of their experiences, offering a safe and non-judgemental environment where clients can talk things through without being under pressure. To allow clients to understand that what they are experiencing is their brain’s way of coping with what happened to them; to support clients in making links of how past events manifest in their life, and support clients to gain greater self-awareness about who they are and the changes they want to make by offering grounding techniques and awareness exercises in the here-and-now to enable clients to feel safe, come down from hyper arousal and learn how to regulate their emotions.
In my therapeutic relationship with clients, I want my clients to know my compassion and empathy about their situation and I demonstrate my dedication to guiding clients through their struggles and support clients to find their way of moving forward to a healthier situation. I focus on leading the client towards a future where they feel confident and empowered enough to make positive changes for themselves. I do so by offering an environment free of judgement, where the client can feel safe and comfortable about being open. I listen to my clients with undivided attention and I aim to establish trust and understanding between the client and I. I do my best to ensure that the client feels relaxed and able to share their thoughts, emotions, and experiences , which allows me to have a better understanding of their situation and to determine how to best support the client. I adopt an open and accepting attitude towards my clients and I am ready to meet each individual client where they are with their variety of presenting issues. I accept the client as they are and want to help them heal. I have encountered clients from all walks of life and from a variety of backgrounds culturally, ethnically, and socioeconomically; differences in gender expression and identification, as well as sexuality. As a counsellor, I am welcoming of and appreciative of this diversity and I am open to and accepting of each client.
I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, & intimacy related issues. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!
