About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC Associate) #94034 in the State of Texas supervised by Swathi Weaver, PhD, LPC-S. I am National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Certified Trauma Professional (CTP).

Abraham “Joss” Leal is a licensed professional counselor associate whose approach is shaped by a rich and diverse background. His clinical experience includes supporting individuals found not guilty by reason of insanity, those seeking wellness in a private clinical setting, and serving on the front lines of crisis intervention as part of San Antonio's co-responder crisis response team (SA CORE).

Abraham's academic path reflects a deep commitment to his profession. He holds an Associate of Arts (A.A.) and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology (minor in Business), a Master of Science (M.S.) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is currently advancing his expertise as a doctoral student in Counselor Education and Supervision. Abraham's therapeutic style is existential, trauma-informed, and integrative. Viewing therapy as a journey between fellow travelers, he fosters an authentic space where clients can grapple with life's givens—freedom, meaning, and mortality—and take authorship of their unique story. A Navy "Silent Service" veteran, Abraham understands the value of military service and the transitional challenges service members may face when entering the civilian workforce. He has also worked with individuals who feel overwhelmed by anxiety or depression, those who experience perceptual issues attributed to psychosis, survivors of trauma, people struggling to adjust to major life changes, and individuals facing challenges in their relationships at home or in the workplace.

As a researcher, Abraham focuses on exploring crisis response processes, forensic counseling and evaluation, and neurofeedback. Outside of the classroom and clinical spaces, Abraham plays piano, sings, and enjoys gaming with close and distant friends.
