Dr. Hallstrom has a particular passion for helping "silent sufferers"—those managing substance use that may not be visible to the world but feels all-consuming internally. Whether a client is navigating a dependence on nicotine or caffeine, or battling alcohol, marijuana, prescription, or street drugs, he works to untangle the "why" behind the habit.

Because he believes in treating the whole person, he specializes in addressing these challenges alongside co-occurring disorders like trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and personality disorders. By treating these concerns congruently, he ensures that mental health and recovery pull in the same direction. He provides a safe, trauma-informed space for individuals and couples (ages 12+) to clear the "ghosts" of the past and start their best chapters.

My name is Aaron Hallstrom, and I founded The Order of Promise because recovery should feel like a fresh start, not a life sentence. With a Master’s in Addiction Counseling and a PhD in General Psychology, I’ve got the credentials to help you unpack the heavy stuff—but I’m also a real human who knows that life is messy and that you probably don't want a therapist who talks like an encyclopedia. I am independently licensed as a substance abuse and addiction counselor in both Arizona and Texas, allowing me to bring this specialized support to a wider range of individuals.

My approach is integrated. I don’t believe in treating addiction in a vacuum, which is why I treat mood disorders, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and personality disorders congruently with substance use. We look at the "whole person"—because if we don't address the ADHD driving the impulsivity or the trauma fueling the cycle, we’re just painting over rust. As a trauma-trained therapist, I use tools like EMDR, ART, CBT, and DBT to help you clear the "ghosts" of the past so you can actually enjoy the life you’re building.
