Dr. Sunal is a licensed professional counselor associate who is supervised by Rebecca Lincoln, LPC-S #17816. Dr. Sunal received her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Arizona State University and her doctoral degree in Counseling from Old Dominion University. She is currently an assistant professor of counseling at the University of Texas at Tyler.
Dr. Sunal has over nine years of experience working in the mental health field with a variety of issues and diverse populations. Dr. Sunal works with individuals, couples, and families with presenting concerns on anxiety, depression, stress management, relationship issues, and identity development. Dr. Sunal believes in the importance of a person’s story and meeting each person where they are by utilizing various clinical counseling models and theoretical approaches (e.g., person-centered, family systems theory, positive psychology, mindfulness practices, CBT). She believes in working collaboratively with clients and the importance of incorporating multicultural awareness and cultural humility in all aspects of her clinical work. In her clinical practice, Dr. Sunal attends to the immediate concerns brought up by the clients as she works toward increasing awareness of the roots of those concerns, as well as relevant resources while developing clients’ personal skills toward coping and continuing growth.
