About me
I have over 10 years of experience as a therapist supporting and encouraging clients of all ages on their journey toward healing.
Hi! It is nice to meet you! I am Venita Wright, the owner/therapist of INSPIRE Christian Counseling Center, PLLC. First and foremost, I am a Christian. I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior in 1997. I have been a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Kinston, NC since 2015. I have served as co-leader of the Children's Ministry since 2021.
I am also the mother of two beautiful daughters through adoption. My oldest daughter was placed with us when she was 19 months old. Her adoption was finalized the day before her 2nd birthday. My youngest daughter was placed with us right out of the hospital. Her adoption was finalized one month before her 1st birthday. They bring such joy to my life and definitely keep me on my toes!
I met and my married my husband, William (Billy), in 2000. I always say that I met Mr. Wright so I married him! We had a very loving, happy marriage. He was my biggest supporter and encourager. He was my best friend. In 2018, he was suddenly and unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Eleven months later, in 2019, he passed away, entering into the full presence of the Lord.
When he passed, I stepped away from the mental health field and focused my energy on my own healing, my daughter's healing, and growing our faith in the Lord. In 2021, the Lord placed it on my heart to start a private practice. After much prayer and soul-searching, I began the process. I began adding areas of speciality to my knowledge base, and in 2021 completed the accredited training for adoption competency (TAC) through the Center for Adoption Support and Education (CASE). In 2021, I also earned my graduate certificate in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University. I also completed the certification program for Telemental Health and Digital Ethics from the Zur Institute in 2021.
These are my most recent certifications. I have over 10 years of experience in the mental health field. I graduated from East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville, NC with my M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2011. I earned full licensure as a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in 2014. I earned a graduate certificate in Play Therapy from Capella University in 2013 and earned the credential of registered play therapist (RPT) in 2014. I earned national certification in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) in 2014. I am EMDR Trained and currently toward EMDR Certification.
I have worked hard to learn everything I can to help people. I have worked hard to earn every certification and credential to have the knowledge and skills necessary to support and encourage those in need. All of these skills, degrees, certifications - every credential however is meaningless without compassion. My approach to therapy is Christ-centered. My lens is humanistic and I offer an empathetic, non-judgmental, safe place for healing. My perspective is trauma-based. I view depression, anxiety, impulsivity, and other weighty emotions as symptoms that stem from unhealthy thoughts due to some form of trauma. Traumatic experiences lead us to look for danger in every situation, creating a cycle of unhealthy thoughts, powerful emotions, detrimental behaviors, and unwanted consequences.
My goal is to help my clients achieve their goals. "Be transformed by the renewal of your mind" (Romans 12:2, ESV). That is my goal for every client. How does this work? 1) Contact me for an initial consultation. The consultation can be face-to-face, in person, or virtual. There is no fee for the initial consultation. 2) Develop client-defined goals for therapy. 3) I will develop a plan designed to help meet those goals. 4) The client and I will review and mutually agree to follow the plan. 5) Sessions will be Christ-centered, trauma-informed, and humanistically applied in a way that will bring healing. 6) Goals achieved. 7) Process of therapy is completed.
I will walk with you on your path toward growth and healing. I will support, encourage, and provide the tools needed for success. You will find me to be caring, supportive, and knowledgeable. You have already started the healing process by searching for a therapist. Recognizing a problem is the first step toward finding solutions. You want change and need someone to help. You need a partner that understands and will walk with you on the journey of growth and healing. You took the first step and are ready to now take the next. Grab my hand, and take back your life. I hope you will be inspired to contact me today.
