About me

I am a counselor who finds each moment of therapy a creative moment of collaboration between counselor and client. I love counseling because it draws from my experience as a psychiatric nurse, a yoga teacher and student of spirituality and psychology. I entered the field at the right time since much emphasis now is on mindfulness techniques which I have been immersed in for years.

I worked much of my life as a psychiatric nurse prior to becoming a counselor. This experience gave me a broad overview of numerous psychiatric challenges and a lot of knowledge. But I was disillusioned by primary emphasis on symptom management through medication. I often witnessed people, who through a little guidance and information about different approaches to managing the mind, could thrive well on their own. This is not always the case but I believe in empowering clients to work with a variety of approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and my favorites, Internal Family Systems and Mindfulness Techniques. I want clients to know Therapy is a process of evolution, not a one time cure. It takes curiosity and courage to face one's inner world. I am very patient and non-judgmental and I want clients to know that honesty with self is an important factor in facilitating optimal change.
