Steven Nurkin, LCSW

Hello! My name Steven Nurkin and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida. I have over 13 years of experience working with as a therapist helping people achieve their goals and overcome challenges.

I began my counseling career working with people diagnosed with HIV, with a focus on helping people confront substance abuse and other compulsive behavioral issues, depression, anxiety, career challenges, mood disorders, and intimacy/relationship/co-dependency issues. I've had the honor of working with a variety of clients a number of settings and employing a number of therapeutic approaches, including client-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapy. I always look to take a collaborative approach working with people by asking them to define what their goals might be in therapy and how to best measure progress. By understanding the complete social and contextual environment in which my clients reside, I'm better skilled at helping clients discover individualized solutions and strategies to overcome challenges.

I know how frustrating it can be for people when they feel like they aren't understood, and I make every effort to make sure at the very least the people who see me feel validated and supported. When a session is really good, people will walk away with a bit more insight into their behaviors and how their perspectives have been shaped, along with a fresh perspective on how to manage challenges. Also, I like to let people know they can expect both laughter and occassional tears in our sessions.
