About me
I am an experienced clinical counselor and art therapist with extensive work with children, adolescents, and adults. I work with the populations to deal with past traumas and to overcome mood disorders as well as to improve self-esteem and self-concept. I view the therapeutic process as being a collaborative, mutual endeavor in which I accompany the client in his or her quest toward greater satisfaction and well-being. While I participate in the therapeutic alliance with my professional expertise and own life experiences, clients are equal contributors to the therapeutic process as experts in their life experiences. We work together to help the client to gain insight, make meaning of his or her life, heal from past wounds, and move forward toward his or her goals.
My professional formation includes a range of theoretical perspectives. psychodynamic (understanding the influence of past on the present), Systemic ( the role of contextual factors on an individual), CBT (the role of beliefs, thoughts and behaviors on social-emotional functioning), Intersubjective (the influence of relationships on the development of the self), and art therapy ( the use of creative expression and non-verbal ways of knowing).
