About me
Licensed Mental Health Counselor offering telehealth therapy services
Sonia has a wide range of experience in the mental health industry. This includes working in treatment homes, schools, state institutions, and outpatient therapy settings. Additionally, she has spent some time working in both insurance and research. Sonia's experience gives her a very well-rounded perspective of the therapy process.
Sonia understands that as our plans change, so do our mental health needs. She also knows that not everyone’s path is the same exact one. For instance, Sonia began her family at a young age and furthered her education as a non-traditional student. This taught her that we all accomplish our goals differently. There is no right way – just the ways that work for us and our circumstances.
Sonia’s journey has also shown her the mental and physical challenges of chronic illnesses. Regardless of which side of the illness you are on, it can feel very lonely, and normal interactions become filtered through a different lens. This is why it is so important to have a reliable support system and speak to a professional when necessary.
Sonia dreams of a world where mental health is normalized and is part of standard healthcare for every person. Her favorite therapy approaches include mindfulness, cognitive techniques and finding context in systems theory. In addition, Sonia is working on becoming recertified in American Sign Language and is excited to be able to work with those who are Deaf and hard of hearing in the future.
