About me
Shantel Shockey is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) that has experience and enjoys working with children, couples, families, and individuals. Her passion is to help people overcome or cope with issues that keep them stuck and unable to enjoy their life. She seeks to help them heal and flourish by working together to identify concerns, and by listening carefully to them to develop a treatment plan uniquely designed to fit their needs.
Shantel’s clinical work encompasses a wide range of behavioral and mental health issues including grief/loss, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems and life transitions. Some of her most meaningful work to date has focused on issues with grief, self-esteem, and relationships.
Shantel treats couples, families, and individuals from a systemic perspective. Theoretically she applies a variety of treatment strategies that will best fit the client's needs. These theoretical orientations include but are not limited to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), family systems therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and integration of different therapy models. She assists her clients with a variety of emotional, personal, and relational problems.
Shantel holds a Master of Arts in Psychology (with an emphasis in Marriage & Family Therapy) from California Southern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Northwest Christian University/Bushnell University. Prior to becoming a therapist Shantel spent the last eighteen years serving as Director of a non-profit in East Tennessee where she helped expectant mothers find and achieve their dreams.
