About me
I am an experienced general psychiatrist with a career-long interest in PTSD. I have additional education in diagnosing and treating - treating! - Long Covid symptoms such as "brain fog," a neuro-immunologic disorder sometimes with psychological complications.
In December 2021, I retired from a position as Medical Director for Behavioral Health with a wonderful non-profit hospital in Northwoods Wisconsin. Like so much of corporate “healthcare” the hospital had new ownership and had begun a transition towards a more protocol-driven culture. As I now un-retire, I am networked with caring health professionals who hope to develop alternative models that let us work more closely with the whole person, and respect modes of healing that lie beyond standard medicine. This practice should feel more like a traditional doctor-patient collaboration.
Depending on the condition and client's wishes, I may treat with judicious use of standard medications, but frequently can recommend specific supplements, herbs, and nutrition. I play well with others, and believe that definitive treatment often needs psychotherapy.
AD/H spectrum problems can benefit from coaching.
"Psychosomatic" disorders are often derived from poorly understood medical complexity.
My clinic has a lower-pressure-range soft HBOT chamber to accelerate natural recovery from TBI, inflammatory and some immune system conditions.
I strongly prefer in person contact but can accommodate follow-up appointments with telehealth. This clinic is cash-based in order to avoid interference from insurance companies and restrictive medical protocols. Records are held off-line for better confidentiality. Notes and diagnoses can be made available by client choice for insurance reimbursement and coordinating care with therapists and medical professionals.
I also advocate for judicious use of testing. The emerging field of functional and integrative medicine tends to lean heavily upon expensive tests. Sometimes, the test results allow are more personalized treatment approach. Sometimes, they cost more than they are worth. This is always something to discuss. More often, the 70 to 90 minutes taken for a comprehensive history is more valuable than a long panel of lab results.
Dr. Most received his medical degree from U. North Carolina School of Medicine in 1989, completed his residency at the University of. Colorado - HSC, and has held membership in the American Neuropsychiatric Association since 1998. He has lectured for Continuing Medical Education at events sponsored by the Silvan Tomkins Institute, a pioneer in a more emotion-based understanding of psychological problems (similar to Emotion-Focused Therapy in some ways.) He has been an Attending Physician on a specialized PTSD Unit for Veterans, and has supervised therapists in dual diagnosis programs. He has also enjoyed teaching resident physicians, and close collaboration with psychotherapists in a private practice setting.
He is accepting new patients from both Wisconsin and Minnesota.
