I am an experienced dual licensed counselor focused on working with individual adults and couples struggling from a wide range of issues that includes depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, and PTSD.
Are you looking for a friend or a therapist? Friends tend to be an echo chamber, just agreeing with the things we say. Friends are like us, don't push us, and don't challenge us. This isn’t a problem in a social group when you’re hanging out and just being part of the tribe (everyone wants to be accepted). But we’re unlikely to find new approaches to problems by consulting people who think just like us and aren’t trained either! So, we spiral in our thoughts and problems eventually becoming a person we don't recognize.
So, would you look for the same qualities in a therapist as a friend? Your answer should be NO. You should be looking for someone who is going to push you out of your comfort zone and make you face those uncomfortable feelings. That is what I am offering you. I will challenge you, make you uncomfortable, and not just agree with your bullshit.
Although the military, veteran, and 1st responder communities are a good portion of who I work with, no one is left behind.
