I am a consulting psychologist who provides clinical services to individuals, couples, families and adolescents dealing with a range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, phobia, marital discord, career and other personal life challenges.
Dr. Nora Alarifi Pharaon is a counseling psychologist licensed in New York and New Jersey. She is also licensed to provide mental health services across state lines based on the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT). Nora provides individual, couple, and group psychotherapy as well as performs psychological evaluations for adults, youth and children. Nora has spent the past two decades delivering personal development workshops in the Middle East as part of her contribution to the Arab society. She has been a pioneer in bringing the knowledge and practice through delivering customized and culturally sensitive workshops in both Arabic and English to groups and organizations there. She presents on a variety of topics and themes that cover regulating emotions, resolving conflicts, improving communication, teaching mindfulness practice, raising resilient children, among many others. Nora also provides psychological services to individuals of Arab American decent and works with the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP) and the court system as an expert witness in custody evaluations, assessing abuse or neglect, and foster care placement. She has worked with victims of domestic violence both domestically and internationally and presented on the topic in various conferences. Nora is presently a consulting psychologist at Pharaon Consulting Group, Inc., and Executive Director of Gain Contact Group, LLC, which provides multicultural learning and training solutions to various individuals and organizations both in the US and the Middle East. Nora has been a passionate advocate on behalf of the Arab American community with regard to their unmet mental health needs. In her capacity as co-founder and Board President of TANWEER: The Arab American Family Center of NJ, established in May 2006, she worked tirelessly to promote awareness and provide culturally competent services to members of the community. Nora is also the co-founder and past Executive Director of TAMKEEN: The Center for Arab American Empowerment, which was established in New York City in July 2004. These two not-for-profit organizations were co-founded by Nora in her attempt to provide for the unmet mental health needs of the Arab American community post 9/11 era. Nora has deep interests in social issues. She volunteered for 10 years as a United Nations NGO representative of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI). She was an active member of the UN NGO committee on Mental Health and the committee on Refugees and Displaced Persons. Nora earned her doctorate and master’s degree in psychology at Columbia University in the US and also holds a bachelor’s in business administration and a master’s degree in Education from the American University of Beirut.
