About me

I am a licensed Psychologist specializing in youth mental health, particularly adolescent girls, families, and the empowerment of adult women. I have expertise in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, complex-trauma, and crisis intervention. I provide school-based family counseling and consutation.

I have had a variety of educational careers for 34 years in the CA school system as a teacher, school counselor , and wellness provider. After receiving my doctorate in Counseling Psychology, I transitioned on toward fulfilling my dream to found an Institute for Girls' Development. While specializing in working predominantly with children and adolescent females in my private practice, I adapted to include male clients as I thoroughly enjoy helping boys and men stand strong, yet as gentlemen. Sustaining my youthful spirit, I am sometimes called the "youth whisperer" as I establish rapport with young folks with ease. As my age ascended, it was no longer a pretty picture when I rose from the floor after conducting play therapy. Therefore, the age range of my current clientele begin with preteens and extend throughout the life span development of older adults. The inclusion of gender, ethnic and economic diversity continues from my early professional school days due to cultural accommodations in building acceptance and discovering the benefits by others in engaging in mental health services. I came full circle in my professional endeavors by serving as adjunct faculty teaching and training graduate students become counselors and therapists in the Counseling Psychology Department at the University of San Francisco.
My private practice is located in a calm, cozy suite set in the central area of the S.F. Bay Area . A CBT orientation is embedded in the foundation of my theoretical framework and supported by its third wave derivatives of ACT and DBT, however, I make application from a host of supplementary, eclectic elements from object relations, such as attachment theory, and furthermore integrate emotion focused , gestalt, somatic and sensory-perceptual therapies, to name a few. Most importantly, my therapeutic alliance is derived from both an interactive and strength-based approach by helping my clients actualize their own strengths and resiliency. Finally, as a believer in life-long learning, I can arrest to my developmental progress and love of reading and research that has become evident in the weekly psychoeducational Women's Empowerment Circles, which I had only facilitated with youth previous to becoming a psychologist.
